WHAT WILL MORRISON CUT FROM TAFE?

SENATOR THE HON DOUG CAMERON
SHADOW MINISTER FOR HOUSING AND HOMELESSNESS
SHADOW MINISTER FOR SKILLS, TAFE AND APPRENTICESHIPS
SENATOR FOR NEW SOUTH WALES

WHAT WILL MORRISON CUT FROM TAFE?

Scott Morrison must come clean about how much the Liberals will cut from TAFE and apprenticeships to pay for his tax cuts for the top end of town.

This election is a choice between Labor and its plan for TAFE and apprenticeships versus bigger tax loopholes for the top end of town under the Liberals.

For the last six years the Liberal Government have cut funding to TAFEs and apprenticeships. And today, we find out they’ve got to find another $40 billion in cuts to pay for their promises.

Government-funded enrolments in TAFE have dropped by 25 per cent and apprenticeships have plummeted by 150,000.

In the last budget the Liberals committed a paltry extra $54.4 million over four years, after cutting $3 billion since taking office.

Scott Morrison and the Liberals have gutted our TAFE system.

Only Labor has the policies to increase the capacity of the vocational education system and the skills of the Australian workforce.

If elected, a Shorten Labor Government will guarantee at least two out of three public VET dollars go to TAFE.

Labor has also committed to more than $1 billion in additional investment in TAFE, including:

  • $50 million for 10,000 pre-apprenticeship programs.
  • $83 million to support 20,000 Adult Apprentices.
  • $200 million Building TAFE for the Future Fund.
  • $380 million to waive the upfront fees for 100,000 TAFE students.
  • $334 million for 150,000 additional Apprentice Incentives.

This Federal Election is a choice between Labor’s plan for better TAFEs, or bigger tax loopholes for the top end of town under the Liberals.

After six years of Liberal cuts and chaos, our united Labor team is ready.

Only a Shorten Labor Government will deliver better TAFEs for all Australians.
