LIBERALS GUTTING TAFE SOUTH AUSTRALIA

It’s always the same story with the Liberals – cut TAFE.

The South Australian Liberal Education Minister David Pisoni has taken the first step toward full contestability of TAFE in South Australia by cutting $5 million from the public provider.

This is a concerted attack on TAFE. At both State and Federal level, the Liberals are hostile to the trusted and iconic public provider and are happy to see it gutted by privatisation.

The Federal Liberals have just cut $270 million from TAFE, apprenticeships and skills in the 2018 Budget. More than $3 billion has been cut from vocational education by the Liberals since they came to office.

Not that long ago SA’s Senator Simon Birmingham said funding TAFE was akin to funding basket weaving.

There is a clear difference between Labor and the Liberals on vocational education. Labor will put people and the services they rely on first. We will grow and build TAFE with our $100 million Building TAFE for the Future fund, and we will provide easier access to 100,000 students by waiving their upfront TAFE fees.

That’s what the Liberals should be doing, not cutting funding and decimating TAFE with their failed competition obsession.
