BRANDIS JOINS SCOMO AND O’DWYER ON LABOR’S ‘HIGHER HOUSE PRICES’ FARCE

Today, in an embarrassing display, the Leader of the Government in Senate, Senator George Brandis joined Scott Morrison and Kelly O’Dwyer in the claim that Labor’s housing affordability policy increases house prices.

Senator  Brandis said in Question Time today that “If the Labor Party were to be elected with the housing policy that it announced at the time of the 2016 election then housing prices would rise.”

This directly contradicts Malcolm Turnbull and Peter Dutton’s view that Labor’s policy would ‘smash’ house prices.

For the record, independent analysis suggests that neither doom-saying faction is correct. Labor’s policy would moderate housing price growth and put first home buyers on an even playing field against investors.

It is astonishing that the Turnbull Government cannot get its story straight on whether negative gearing reform will ‘smash’ housing prices or the reverse, but then again, nothing about this chaotic, self-absorbed and divided government is surprising anymore.

What is clear is that a divided and dysfunctional Turnbull government will never get housing policy right.
