FEDERAL GOVERNMENT CUTS HURTING BATHURST TAFE

Funding cuts to Bathurst TAFE have reached crisis point. Jess Jennings, Labor candidate for Calare, will meet with NSW Teachers Federation members outside Bathurst TAFE on Friday to discuss the damaging cuts ahead of the May 18 Federal election.

This election will be a choice between a united Shorten Labor Government which will gives Australians the training they need to get the jobs of the future, or more of the Liberals’ cuts and chaos.

Mr Jennings said cuts at Bathurst TAFE have hit TAFE students with increased fees and cuts to teaching delivery hours and the Federal government’s contestable funding policy has seen TAFE course prices rise substantially, putting vocational education out of the reach of many young people in Bathurst.

“Regional communities are very sensitive whenever there are cuts at their local TAFE because they are well aware of the vital role that a well- funded public TAFE system plays in the community,” said Mr Jennings.

“Labor will reverse these damaging cuts and restore guaranteed funding for our TAFE system, which was once one of the best VET systems in the world.”

“There is a lot of anger in the community over what has happened to our TAFE system and there is a lot of support for the restoration of guaranteed funding to TAFE.”

“Labor has committed to restoring TAFE by guaranteeing a minimum 2/3 government funding to the public TAFE system. Labor's plan to restore funding to the sector, and to re-build Australia's network of campuses around the country stands in stark contrast with the Turnbull government's continuing cuts to Vocational Education.”

“The ALP’s policies offer hope to a whole generation of young people in the Bathurst region, and to the community at large who desperately need a high quality public TAFE system to support their vocational education.”

End the chaos. Vote for change. Vote for Labor.
